Scots rock singer Kyle Falconer has been detained by French police after a flight he was on was forced to divert.

The View lead singer was on the Jet2 flight from Reus, in Spain, back to Glasgow, on Friday afternoon when the pilot and crew took the decision to divert to the French city of Nantes.

They landed to allow police on board after trouble broke out mid-flight. Falconer was then removed from the flight and taken into police custody.

The airline said the captain and crew took the action after a man became "increasingly violent and disruptive" on the flight.

Everyone on board was then told to leave the plane and wait in the airport while the situation was dealt with. The View are famous for hits including Same Jeans.

A spokesman for Jet2 said: "Our captain made the decision to divert the Reus to Glasgow flight LS122 to Nantes today after a male passenger became increasingly violent and disruptive on board.

"Our crew had no option but to take action for the continued safety of our customers and crew. He has now been offloaded in Nantes and handed over to the local authorities.

"We will be launching a full investigation, working alongside Police Scotland and will be following due process under the law to prosecute and recover our costs incurred by this unnecessary diversion.

"We apologise to our customers for having to witness such disruptive behaviour and for the delay to their journey home.

"Our Onboard Together initiative commits to taking a zero tolerance stance against anti-social behaviour for the well-being of our customers and crew."

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Police Scotland has received a complaint regarding the behaviour of a passenger on a Jet2 flight from Reus to Glasgow resulting in the flight being diverted to Nantes and the passenger being ejected. Inquiries are ongoing."
