A teenage boy is in hospital after he was knocked down by a bus.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene in Glasgow city centre on Friday morning after the collision.

The 16-year-old was crossing the road on Argyle Street at its junction with Jamaica Street at 9.40am when he was struck.

The road was closed for around three hours while police inquiries got under way and the area cleared. He was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where his condition is described as stable.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 9.40am on Tuesday police and emergency services responded to reports of a road traffic crash whereby a 16-year-old boy was struck by a bus on Argyle Street at its Junction with Union Street and Jamaica Street.

"He was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where medical staff describe his condition as stable.

"Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident."
