Passenger badly injured in two-van crash in Lanarkshire
Driver also taken to hospital as a precaution after the crash on the A702.
A man was airlifted to hospital after two vans crashed on a main road during rush hour.
Police and emergency services were called to the scene of the crash on the A702 in Biggar, South Lanarkshire, on Thursday afternoon.
A Volkswagen Crafter Van was heading southbound on the A702, around one and a half miles north of Candymill Road, when it collided with a Peugeot Partner Van at around 5.35pm.
The 58-year-old male passenger of the Peugeot was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as serious but stable.
The 32-year-old driver of the Peugeot appeared uninjured but was taken to the same hospital as a precaution. The 26-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen did not require medical attention.
Both vehicles suffered extensive damage in the collision and the road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators conducted enquiries.
A statement from police said: "Road Policing officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident or the vehicles to contact them at Motherwell Police Office on the police non-emergency number 101."
