Driver charged with causing death of mother in police pursuit
Marie Laurie was in taxi on her way back from her son's wedding when the crash happened.
A young driver has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a mother in a crash after her son's wedding.
Steven Bennie, 21, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday charged with causing death by dangerous driving of Marie Laurie during an alleged police pursuit in November.
Mrs Laurie, 57, and her husband Jamie were in a black Hackney taxi on Springboig Road in the east end of Glasgow on November 29 when it was struck by a car.
She died at the scene and her husband was taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries.
Bennie also faced a number of other road traffic offences including driving while disqualified, uninsured or without a licence, drink-driving and dangerous driving.
It comes after the Crown was handed a report in March into the crash by watchdog the Police Complaints and Review Commissioner (Pirc).
Mrs Laurie was on her way home from her son's wedding at the Lochside House Hotel in New Cumnock when the crash happened.
Bennie made no plea of declaration and was granted bail during his private appearance on Wednesday.
