Pair have charges of stalking EuroMillions winner dropped
John McGowan and Alan Marsh denied following £161m winner Christine Weir in Troon.
Two men accused of stalking a woman who won £161m on the EuroMillions have had the charges against them dropped.
Photographer John McGowan, 46, and actor Alan Marsh, 67, denied following EuroMillions winner Christine Weir, 59, near her mansion in Troon, South Ayrshire.
Prosecutors claimed the pair pursued Mrs Weir, who scooped £161m along with her husband Colin in 2011, along Monktonhead Road in Troon on January 6 this year.
They were said to have followed a car she and a John Hood were travelling in on Monktonhead Road and at the Bellfield roundabout in Kilmarnock.
They denied behaving in a threatening or abusive manner which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm and were due to go on trial at Ayr Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
The pair were not in attendance at court and procurator fiscal depute Scott Toal did not call the case, meaning the prosecution against them was no longer proceeding.
A spokesman for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service confirmed the case has been dropped.
He said: "The procurator Fiscal at Ayr received a report concerning two men, aged 67 and 46, in connection with an alleged incident on January 6, 2016.
"After careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, the procurator fiscal decided that there should be no further proceedings taken at this time. The Crown reserves the right to re-raise proceedings."
McGowan refused to comment on the court case when contacted by telephone on Wednesday.
