Couples left in lurch after wedding planner shuts up shop
Happy Talk Events appears to have closed down with no prior warning to customers.
Dozens of couples have been left in limbo and out of pocket after a wedding planner suddenly shut up shop and left with their money.
Happy Talk Events, based in Glasgow city centre, appears to have closed down without any warning to its customers, who have already paid for their services ahead of their wedding day.
Many have now been left with nothing for the money they handed over and need to find alternative arrangements for their big day.
The firm's website, social media accounts and any contact details have been completely removed from the internet and a closed sign has appeared at the shop on Howard Street, Glasgow.
Maria Reilly's daughter Jacqueline is getting married in September and went to Happy Talks for decorations for her wedding day after seeing a 25% discount.
Ms Reilly told STV News: "My daughter found out this morning and she called me straight away in work to tell me. I thought it was a joke at first.
"She was going to go with someone else back in February but decided to use Happy Talk because they had a 25% off offer for Valentines Day.
"It's atrocious that this company can just up sticks and disappear into the sunset and leave all these couples without their money. They've just taken everyone's money.
"The company has shut up shop and absconded with their, and no doubt several other couples, monies who had booked their services. My daughter only became aware of this earlier this morning and is very distressed."
Joanne Flood told STV News: "I am a customer who booked wedding decor with them for my wedding in eight weeks and we have now found out through social media that the company has closed down with no prior warning.
"All forms of communication have been taken down including their website, Facebook page, email address and phone line.
"The showroom in Howard Street is closed today even though they are open Tuesdays through to Sundays.
"I myself haven't lost a great deal of money but I have friends who have lost hundreds of pounds and brides that are commenting on Facebook saying they have lost thousands."
