Cleaning products cause chemical scare at MoD building
Fire crews set up a cordon around Kentigern House on Crimea Street in Glasgow city centre.
A Ministry of Defence (MoD) building was cordoned off after cleaning products prompted a chemical scare.
Fire crews including a Hazmat (hazardous materials) unit set up a cordon around the building in Glasgow city centre at around 10.45am on Thursday.
Workers were told not to leave the premises at Kentigern House on Crimea Street while the crews assessed the area after bottles containing fluid were discovered outside.
Five fire engines attended, including a specialist environmental unit, before the fluid was found to be an agricultural cleaning product. It was believed to have been left there by mistake.
A fire service spokesman said: "We attended Crimea Street following a report of bottles of fluid having been found outside Kentigern House.
"The call came shortly after 10.45am and we sent five fire engines to the scene, including the specialist Environmental Protection Unit from Hamilton. No injuries were reported.
"Firefighters and police officers cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure while a scientific adviser and our technical support team analysed the liquid. It was determined to be a cleaning product and our crews had left the scene by 12:30pm."
