The racist murderer of teenager Kriss Donald has been cleared of attacking a fellow prisoner.

Imran "Baldy" Shahid, 39, was acquitted on Friday of a charge of assaulting James Forbes, 46, at Saughton Prison in Edinburgh in July 2015.

Prosecutors at Edinburgh Sheriff Court claimed he repeatedly punched Mr Forbes at the jail.

Shahid, of Pollokshields, Glasgow, was jailed for life in November 2006.

He was imprisoned after he and two accomplices abducted 15-year-old Kriss Donald from a street in the south side and murdered him in March 2004.

Judge Lord Uist ordered the career criminal to serve a minimum of 25 years behind bars.

On Friday, Shahid came to court from his prison cell wearing a Scotland team rugby shirt.

He had a large scar on the back of his skull. It is believed the scar is from surgery he received after being struck with a dumb-bell by a fellow inmate at Kilmarnock Prison.

Shahid, who arrived in the dock handcuffed to a security officer, spoke briefly to confirm his name.

Forbes told the court he could not remember anything about July 22, 2015, the day of the alleged attack.

He said: "I had a fit on that day so I can't remember very much about it. It's all very hazy."

Prosecutors decided not to lead any more evidence in the case. Sheriff Frank Crowe then acquitted Shahid.
