Residents were evacuated after a major blaze ripped through a tenement block above a city pub.

Firefighters in Glasgow were called to a fire at a block of flats in the east end of the city on Friday morning.

The blaze broke out above the Oak Bar on Springfield Road at its junction with Whitby Street at around 9.20am. Some residents were evacuated from their homes.

A total of six appliances, including a mobile incident command unit, tackled the blaze.

Ten Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the building and doused the flames using high-pressure jet hoses. An aerial rescue pump was also used to tackle the blaze from an elevated position.

Crews contained the fire and performed cutting away operations on the roof and inside the building to minimise damage and ensure there is no fire spread.

No one was injured and Scottish Ambulance Service crews attended as a precaution. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
