Woman attacked in attempted carjacking outside supermarket
Man approached victim in the car park of Aldi in Renfrew High Street on Tuesday afternoon.
A woman was dragged from her vehicle during an attempted carjacking outside a supermarket.
Police have launched an investigation after the incident in the car park of Aldi near High Street in Renfrew on Tuesday afternoon.
A man approached the victim and threatened her with a weapon before before trying to make off in the vehicle.
He could not get it started, however, and fled on foot empty-handed from the scene at around 5.45pm.
The woman was not injured but left badly shaken. The suspect is described as white, 30-40 years of age, 5ft 8 inches in height and of medium build with short blond receding hair.
Sergeant Manjit Singh, from the Community Investigation Unit at Paisley Police Office, said: "Officers are continuing their enquiries to trace the man responsible and we are currently studying CCTV footage to establish more detail on him.
"Officers are carrying out patrols in the area however, I would stress that this is an isolated incident however I would ask that people remain vigilant when entering or leaving their vehicles.
"I would appeal to anyone who was in the car park area who witnessed this robbery take place, or anyone who may have seen the suspect acting suspiciously in the local area to contact police through the non-emergency number 101."
