Bungling Buckfast thief moaned about price of drink
Jospeh Elder was armed with a knife when he targeted three shops in the space of 25 minutes.
A man held up a shop worker at knife point after moaning about the price of Buckfast during a spree of robbery bids.
Joseph Elder had gone into the grocery store on Wellshot Road in Tollcross, Glasgow, in February this year with a friend.
When the other man asked for Buckfast, Elder complained about the cost of the tonic wine.
The High Court in Glasgow heard the 28 year-old then brandished a blade at shop worker Sami Hussein.
Elder and his friend fled after Mr Hussein pressed a panic alarm. The raid was one of three shops Elder targeted in the space of 25 minutes. He had earlier demanded cash from a nearby newsagents.
After holding up Mr Hussein, he went on to threaten Bilal Aslam at knifepoint at his mobile phone shop on Tollcross Road. Elder pleaded guilty on Wednesday to two charges of assault with intent to rob.
The former biscuit factory worker also admitted a third accusation of assault on Mr Aslam.
Ross Yuill, defending, said: "This was not something that was planned - it appeared to happen spontaneously.
"In many ways, it is inexplicable. He lived close by and the prospects of anything being successful were very slim indeed."
Judge Lord Bannatyne jailed Elder for four years.
