A man is seriously injured in hospital after his mini motorbike was involved in a smash with a car.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene of the collision in Barrhead, East Renfrewshire, on Tuesday night.

A red Ford Fiesta was heading south on Springhill Road at around 10pm when it was about to turn right into Park Avenue.

It stopped due to an oncoming vehicle and once the car had passed, the driver of the Fiesta began turning into Park Avenue. As it turned the car and an oncoming Mini Moto Superbyke collided.

The rider of the Superbyke was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries. He remains in hospital in a serious condition. The driver of the Ford Fiesta was uninjured.

Sergeant Kenneth Canavan from the Greater Glasgow Divisional Road Policing Unit is appealing for any witnesses to the collision.

He said: "We would appeal specifically to any drivers travelling north on Springhill Road who may have seen the vehicles to contact us.

"Anyone with information should contact the Greater Glasgow Divisional Road Policing Unit via the 101 number."
