Firefighters spent seven hours tackling a major grass fire which reached 450m wide.

The blaze broke out in a field in Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire, before spreading to 450m at the height of the incident.

Four fire crews were called out to tackle the blaze, which was extinguished using beaters and a water jet after around seven hour.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: "SFRS was alerted at 2.38pm on Wednesday to a grass fire at Fannyside Road, Cumbernauld.

"At the height of the incident the fire the fire measured 450 metres. There were four fire engines in attendance and firefighters attacked the blaze using beaters and a water jet.

"We left the scene at 9.55pm after ensuring the area was safe."
