A man has been attacked and racially abused by a woman in the street.

Police have launched an investigation after the racially aggravated assault in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, on Monday evening.

The woman, in her 20s, approached the victim in the town's Fleming Way around 7.30pm and subjected him to a tirade of racial abuse before assaulting him.

The woman is described as white, slim, with streaked blonde hair and was wearing a grey hoody and skinny jeans. Police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "About 7.30pm on the Monday at Fleming Way, Hamilton, a man was subjected to racial abuse and then an assault by a female who is yet to be identified.

"The female is described as being white, in her 20s, slim build, streaked blonde hair wearing a grey hoodie and skinny jeans.
