A woman has been knocked down by a bus on a city centre street.

The 28-year-old woman was struck by a single-decker Stagecoach bus in Glasgow at around 12.30pm on Wednesday.

Police and emergency services were called to the Broomielaw after the collision and the woman was taken to hospital. Her condition is described as serious.

The street was closed westbound from York Street to Brown Street for around an hour while police cleared the scene and carried out inquiries.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses following a serious road crash in Glasgow City Centre on Wednesday.

"Around 12.30pm police received a report of a woman having been struck by a bus on the Broomielaw near to the junction with Brown Street.

"Emergency services attended and a 28-year-old woman was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Hospital staff describe her condition as serious."

Sergeant William Graham added: "The Broomielaw will have been busy around the time of the incident with motorists driving by as well as people on their lunch breaks.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed what happened to contact officers at the Road Policing Department in Glasgow on 101."
