A man has died after being found injured at a block of flats.

Police and emergency services were called to the flats in the Clune Park area of Port Glasgow on Sunday afternoon.

They found a 51-year-old injured within a close in the building in Robert Street at around 4.15pm. He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Detectives have launched an investigation and the death is currently being treated as unexplained. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 4.15pm on Sunday, police received a report of a man having been found injured within a close in Robert Street, Port Glasgow.

"Emergency services attended and a 51-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death and police are treating it as unexplained at this time.

"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
