Man stabbed in street as police probe Old Firm derby link
Police believe knife attack on man in Paisley on Sunday could be linked to Old Firm derby.
A man is in hospital after he was stabbed in the street following Sunday's Old Firm derby.
Police and emergency services were called to a disturbance in Paisley, Renfrewshire, at around 2.55pm.
They found a 40-year-old man had suffered several stab wounds after a knife attack in Westburn Avenue in the town.
The attack happened just minutes after Rangers defeated Celtic on penalties in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup at Hampden.
It is understood one line of inquiry being looked at by police is that the incident was football-related.
The victim was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and then transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he is still being treated for his injuries.
Police have launched an investigation and say they are following a positive line of inquiry.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "At around 2.55pm on Sunday, emergency services responded to reports of a 40-year-old man having been seriously assaulted in Westburn Avenue, Paisley.
"The injured man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and then transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.
"Hospital staff describe his condition as stable. Police are following a positive line of inquiry."
