A man has been charged with attempted murder after an incident involving firearms police.

Police and emergency services were called to an incident at a property in Kilbirnie, North Ayrshire, on Saturday, March 12.

Officers responded to reports a man had barricaded himself inside a property.

A 24-year-old man was subsequently shot by armed officers but his injuries were not serious.

On Friday, Jamie Thomson, from Kilbirnie, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court charged with attempted murder, assault, breach of the peace and culpable and reckless conduct.

He made no plea or declaration during the brief hearing and was remanded in custody.
