A man has been taken to hospital after a major fire in the top floor of a tenement building in Glasgow's east end.

Emergency services were called to the four-storey flat in Aberfoyle Street in the Haghill area of the city shortly before 6.30am on Thursday.

Crews from Cowcaddens, Springburn, Calton and Easterhouse are at the scene.

They searched the building for residents and used breathing apparatus to tackle the fire with water hoses.

A high reach appliance was set up to tackle the fire from above and also protect surrounding properties.

A man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Shortly before 9am, a spokesman for the fire service said: "At present the fire is still ongoing with the crews working extremely hard to tackle the blaze and continue to protect surrounding properties.

"The cause of the fire is yet unknown and Police Scotland are working to minimise the impact of the fire on the local road network."
