The 75th anniversary of the Clydebank Blitz will be marked at two memorial services in the West Dunbartonshire town next month.

The first of the events will take place at 11am on Saturday, March 12, at the Blitz Memorial in Old Dalnottar Cemetery. It will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the Polish Memorial near Clydebank Town Hall.

A second memorial service takes place on Sunday, March 13, at 2pm in Kilbowie St Andrew's Church on Melfort Avenue.

A new exhibition, The Blitz Remembered, also opens at Clydebank Heritage Centre on March 12.

The blitz on Clydeside began on March 13, with 260 German bombers attacking munitions factories and shipyards and dropping waves of high-explosive bombs, incendiary bombs and land mines.

As rescuers worked to save those trapped in burning and destroyed buildings, 200 of the bombers returned to Glasgow's skies the following night.

Over the two-day attack, 528 civilians were killed, more than 615 people were seriously injured and 48,000 Glaswegians lost their homes. Several housing schemes were completely wiped out.
