An investigation has been launched after an A-listed building in Glasgow's west end was demolished without permission.

The two-storey property on Kirklee Terrace Lane was bought for more than £600,000 in 2014 but is now a building site after bulldozers levelled it last week.

Glasgow City Council had approved permission for work to be done on the 19th century property, including an extension and the creation of a wall to the rear of the building.

A spokesman said no permission was given for demolition, however and that the council is now investigating what happened.

Members of local community group Friends of Glasgow West say they were aware work was being done on the site but had no idea the building would be demolished.

Glasgow-based firm CBC Stone confirmed they are contractors on the site but declined to comment any further.

The owners of the building Michel and Margaret Soukop could not be reached for comment.
