A man has died after he was found in a street with "very serious injuries" following a disturbance.

Murder detectives have launched a major probe after the man was discovered lying in a street in the south side of Glasgow in the early hours of Friday.

Police were called to Midcroft Avenue in Croftfoot at around 2.25am. The man, who was 48 but has yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

Officers are treating the death as suspicious and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 2.25pm on Friday, police attended a report of a disturbance in Midcroft Avenue near to its junction with Ashcroft Drive in Castlemilk.

"On arrival they discovered a man with very serious injuries who died at the scene a short time later.

"Police enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the identity of the man and the circumstances of how he came about his injuries.

"A post mortem will take place in due course to establish the cause of death however police are treating the death as suspicious."

A statment later revealed that police are following a "definite line of enquiry".
