A man was seriously injured after he was battered during a road rage attack.

The incident happened on Inverkip Road in Greenock, Inverclyde, and left the 57-year-old victim needing surgery. He had serious facial injuries including a broken jaw.

The man made his own way to hospital after the altercation at around 7.30pm on Saturday. It involved the victim and another driver.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said inquiries are ongoing and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

She said: "We believe there would have been members of the public in the area at the time, so anyone who witnessed the incident should phone us on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
