Care firm staff suspended over abuse claims amid police investigation
Allegations of physical and verbal abuse by staff at Community Lifestyles made to police in April.
A care firm has suspended a number of staff while police investigate allegations of abuse.
Police received a report in April of last year about Glasgow-based Community Lifestyles in connection with claims of physical and verbal abuse of vulnerable clients of the service.
The firm cares for the elderly, as well as disabled and vulnerable children and adults throughout the city and was ranked by Glasgow City Council as its favoured care provider.
It is understood ten support staff at the firm have been suspended pending the outcome of the police investigation. Watchdog the Care Inspectorate says it is also considering the allegations.
A spokeswoman for Community Lifestyles said: "The safety and well-being of the people we support is of paramount importance to us. Following allegations being made, the staff identified were suspended.
"The police are still investigating the situation and until such time as this is concluded we are unable to comment further."
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "We can confirm an inquiry is under way into this matter. It would be inappropriate to comment further."
A Glasgow City Council spokesman said: "We initiated adult support and protection procedures when we were notified of these allegations.
"However, as there is an police investigation currently under way, it is inappropriate to comment further at this time."
A spokesman for the Care Inspectorate said: "A concern has been raised with us about this service and we are considering all information given to us carefully.
"We are continuing to work closely with Community Lifestyles - Glasgow East."
