Four cars suffered punctures on Thursday morning after driving over the pothole on the M8 at Shotts in Lanarkshire.
One of the eastbound lanes on the motorway was closed for more than an hour from around 7.30am as a result.
Motorists faced delays for the early part of the morning due to the obstruction.
Police cordoned off the area and closed the lane while engineers from motorway maintenance organisation Amey repaired the hole. The lane was reopened after 8.30am.
