Chelsea player Islam Feruz has had a trial for allegedly driving while banned in Scotland adjourned until later this year because of work commitments.

The 20-year-old former Celtic youngster was due to go on trial next month for allegedly being caught behind the wheel of an £80,000 Porsche while banned.

Prosecutors also allege Feruz attempted to pervert the course of justice. It is claimed he told two police officers that he was called Saeed Cabadalla, on September 9, last year.

Feruz, who has returned to Chelsea from being on loan to Hibs, faces a final charge of driving without insurance.

At a pre-trial hearing at Glasgow's Justice of the Peace Court, Feruz's lawyer Manus Tolland asked for the trial to be adjourned.

He said that his client would be working in France. The motion was granted and a new trial date was set for June.

Somalian-born Feruz had been tipped as future Hoops star after joining Celtic aged ten. This was after the club successfully campaigned for him and his relatives to stay in Scotland. After six years, he left for Chelsea.
