A young mother was attacked by two men who tried to grab her handbag as she pushed her 13-month-old son in a pram.

The 27-year-old woman was crossing a footbridge in Lanarkshire on Friday evening when she was approached by the attackers from behind who demanded her bag.

She ignored the men and continued walking before one of them hit her on the footbridge crossing the Kingsway, near Burns Park, East Kilbride, at around 7.15pm. They ran off empty handed.

The woman did not require medical attention but has been left extremely shaken by the incident.

The first suspect is described as white, between 17 and 18 years old, between 5ft 4in and 5ft 5in tall. He was wearing a white hooded top, blue jeans and white Nike trainers.

The second suspect is also white and around the same age, 5ft 7in tall and was wearing a dark coloured hooded top and blue jeans.

Detective constable David Timmons said: "These two men are contemptible, to frighten a young woman with a child is shameful and it’s imperative we find out who they are.

"If you were in the vicinity of the footpath at Burns Park around the time of the incident, please get in touch with us - do you remember seeing the two young men described, do you have any information or knowledge about the suspects or the incident?

"If you do, please pass your information to officers, it could prove vital in helping us trace these two men."

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at Cambuslang Police Office on 101.
