A murder inquiry has been launched after a man was found dying outside a Glasgow flat.

Police were called to Balbeggie Street in the Sandyhills area around 6pm on Saturday.

Upon arrival, they found a 21-year-old man with serious injuries. He was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he subsequently died.

The victim was later named as Jamie Johnstone. Police said Mr Johnstone's relatives have been told of his death.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area and are also gathering CCTV footage. Enquiries indicate that several people were in the nearby area at the time of the incident, entering and exiting the high rise flats.

A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course, and officers are treating the death as murder.

Detective inspector Mark Bell said: "We are in the process of piecing together what has happened to this young man. Given his injuries we know he has been attacked but at this stage, we don’t know why.

"I am appealing to people who live in the area, particularly the high rise flats, to contact us with any information they may have. It’s possible someone heard or saw a disturbance and the information could prove vital in assisting our enquiries in tracing whoever is responsible for this young man’s death."

Anyone with any information is asked to call officers at the Major Investigation Team at Helen Street Police Office on 101. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
