A man is seriously injured in hospital after being stabbed in a random attack in Clydebank.

Police are treating the attack, which took place near the railway bridge at Drumry Railway Station, as attempted murder.

The 40-year-old victim had been walking along Onslow Road around 5.30am on New Year's Day when he was assaulted by a group of people.

He suffered stab wounds and was rushed to Elizabeth University Hospital where he remains in a serious condition in the high dependency unit.

Officers have been reviewing CCTV footage and several people are thought to have been in the area at the time of the attack.

Detective inspector Grant MacLeod said: "This appears to be a totally random attack, with no apparent motive, leaving a man seriously injured.

"Our enquires have revealed that despite it being fairly early in the morning, there were various people in the vicinity at the time of the attack and I am appealing to these people to get in touch.

"It's possible you can provide information on the suspects which would assist our investigation in locating those responsible for this violent attack."
