David Law toasted a "massive" maiden European Tour triumph which has seen the Scot surge up the Race to Dubai rankings.

The 27-year-old from Aberdeen produced a spectacular finish to come from three shots back with three holes remaining to win the Handa Vic Open in Australia at the weekend.

Victory earned Law 335 Race to Dubai points, ensuring the rookie, who graduated from the 2018 Challenge Tour, has climbed from 142th to 17th in the rankings.

"It's a massive win," said Law. "It's not something I expected. For me just being out here playing on the European Tour was enough.

"I've been loving the four events I've played so far and to just be a European Tour player was what I was happy with."

Law took home a winning cheque of £140,000, signifying a change in fortunes for a player who learned his trade under Open champion Paul Lawrie's watch.

The Scot looked set to take a part-time job over the winter but claimed the SSE Scottish Hydro Championship on the Challenge Tour to earn his Tour card.

Victory in just his fourth Tour event rewards Law with a two-year exemption.

He continued: "To have won today, it sort of changes things a little bit. I'll go home, reflect a little bit on things and reassess.

"We said we were going to try to finish three-two-four in the hope that we could get a top-three finish. Then birdie 16, par 17, and going down the last we said we need eagle.

"We make eagle, we post at 18 under, you never know what can happen."
