St Mirren chief executive Tony Fitzpatrick has vowed to "stamp out" coin-throwing by dishing out lifetime bans after Rangers' Alfredo Morelos was struck on Saturday.

Footage showed Colombian striker Morelos being hit with a coin as he celebrated making it 2-0 to the Light Blues in Paisley.

Fitzpatrick bemoaned the incident and said Craig Samson and Danny Mullen were also targeted with missiles on the day.

Speaking at the launch of his autobiography "Fitzy - The Story of My Life", the Buddies legend rued the off-field actions of a minority which marred an exciting match.

He said: "It's unacceptable, we can't have this.

"The guys put in a fantastic showing, it was an exciting game.

"Rangers ended up winning it, it was a great goal and he shouldn't have to go through what he had to go through.

"It needs to be stamped out and it will be at this football club, make no mistake about it.

"We'll get the person who has done this and they will be banned for life.

"We'll not tolerate that at St Mirren."

Fitzpatrick singled out Ethan Erhahon for praise after the 17-year-old put in a strong showing on his first Premiership start.

He added: "We're talking about a couple of coin throwers when we had a young lad, Ethan Erhahon, playing at the top-level and looking like a seasoned professional.

"I'd love to talk about things like that rather someone throwing a coin.

"There is self-policing with the supporters, point the girls or guys out who are doing this because it spoiled Saturday."

Buddies boss Oran Kearney is yet to win since taking the reigns in Paisley.

Fitzpatrick backed the Northern Irishman to oversee a turnaround in time.

He continued: "People forget when Jack Ross first came in he lost his first six or seven games.

"We see behind-the-scenes the work Oran is doing, the fans love him.

"We're excited for the season ahead."
