Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on striker Alfredo Morelos for putting in a "perfect" performance in the 3-1 win over Rapid Vienna.

Morelos hit a double as the Light Blues fought back to beat the Austrians in the Europa League.

Gerrard said backing from supporters at a raucous Ibrox helped the Colombian produce a "perfect" display.

"He fed off the supporters," said Gerrard. "You can see the love both ways in his celebration.

"The fans have been behind him from day one whether he's got it wrong or got it right like last night. It's a fantastic relationship.

"I just thought his behaviour on the pitch, the way he went about it, his application, his selflessness got him his reward with his two fantastic goals.

"If you give him service he will score us goals.

"But everything last night was perfect from him. It was a top performance."

The attacker's bustling display in attack drew comparisons with Barcelona star Luis Suarez from Rangers teammate Joe Worrall.

While accepting the pair enjoy similar traits, Gerrard refused to heap any additional pressure on Morelos' shoulders by likening him to the Uruguayan hitman.

"I don't want to compare Alfredo to Luis Suarez," added Gerrard.

"Obviously Luis is a lot older, a lot more experienced, he's a world-class player - probably the best I played with. So it's unfair to compare them just yet.

"But there are a lot of similarities in behaviour. They both play on the edge. They want to win, be it in training or games.

"They can both finish, they score big goals, they are relentless in the way they play and don't stop pressing.

"So, yes, there are similarities, but Alfredo is still a young lad who is still learning and growing, so I think it's a bit unfair to compare him to Suarez."

Gerrard has called on his side to carry on where they left off against Rapid Vienna when Hearts visit Ibrox.

The Light Blues overwhelmed their Austrian opponents to win 3-1 and go top of Europa League Group G on Thursday.

Gerrard wants his team to continue the feel-good factor from their European exploits into league action when Craig Levein's table toppers make the trip to Govan this Sunday.

He said: "I thought every player to a man was top level. As a Rangers player and manager the expectation is to find that consistently so that's going to be the challenge.

"Hearts are a good team, they will be strong. They are flying high, full of confidence so I don't think it will be that different, it will be another tough game.

"But we believe it's about how we approach it. If we find the level of last night we'll have a good change of winning."
