Celtic defender Mikael Lustig has called for his side to have 'more quality' on the ball if they are to earn points away from home in Europe.

The Scottish champions took the lead in Austria, but three second-half goals from Salzburg condemned them to defeat.

Lustig echoed manager Brendan Rodgers' reflection of the game as he also lamented Celtic's ball retention.

He said: "Especially when we get a good start, we need to be better on the ball.

"In the first half we defended really well, so we need to have more quality when we have possession.

"If we do that then we could come away from here with the points."

Last year, Celtic achieved only their second ever away win in European group competition with victory over Anderlecht.

Lustig said he hoped that result would have spurred on his teammates for more success on the road.

"I think historically Celtic have struggled to get points away from home," he said.

"We felt last season with the 3-0 win over Anderlecht that we had learned from that one."
