Celtic defender Kieran Tierney  was "disappointed" by the goals conceded in their 3-1 defeat to Salzburg.

Brendan Rodgers' side took the lead early on through Odsonne Edouard, before Salzburg hit back, striking three goals after the interval.

Tierney, who captained Celtic in Scott Brown's absence, felt that their second-half performance wasn't good enough and said that they need to improve defensively.

He said: "You're disappointed in the goals you concede of course. But it is what it is. We'll reflect on the game and see what we can do better and improve on.

"It was a hard night, we got off to a great start with the goal then after that they were piling on the pressure.

"I think we coped well with the first half, but the second half they got a few goals obviously.

"We knew it was going to be tough. We did well in the first half but not well enough in the second."

Celtic's task in Salzburg was made even more difficult when James Forrest was ordered off when conceding a penalty for the Austrians' third goal.

Tierney said he didn't have a clear enough vantage point to say if it was warranted, but said that the quality of their opposition also had to be considered when reflecting on the defeat.

He added: "I think he said he slipped a bit, but from where I was I couldn't see it clearly.

"I think Salzburg are a Champions League team, the standard they play at and the pressure. It's a very hard place to come and get a result.

"They've shown that in the past with their record so we are disappointed but we know we played a great team as well."
