Gerrard: Rangers rolled back the years in Rapid victory
Steven Gerrard praised his players for producing "a Rangers performance of old" to win.
Steven Gerrard has praised his players for rolling back the years to produce "a Rangers performance of old" which overwhelmed Rapid Vienna.
The Light Blues fought back to beat the Austrians 3-1 at Ibrox, with Alfredo Morelos scoring either side of a James Tavernier penalty.
Victory leaves Rangers top of Europa League Group G after Spartak Moscow and Villarreal played out a 3-3 draw in Russia.
In the build-up to the match Gerrard had called for a response from his side to their weekend loss to Livingston and the former Liverpool skipper was delighted with the reaction.
"A response and more," he said. "I thought our supporters' performance brought the best out of the players and players' performance brought the best out of the fans.
"It was an incredible night, we should have won the game 3-0.
"Every single player to a man was outstanding.
"That's the level and performance I've been looking for since I came in.
"That's a Rangers performance of old.
"The challenge now is to find it consistently because that is the best 90 minutes we have produced.
"We've beaten a very good team with good players, a good idea, a good philosophy.
"If I see a paper tomorrow and one of my players has less than an eight, I'll be asking questions."
