Ten-man Celtic suffer defeat as Salzburg fight back
Red Bull Salzburg came from behind to beat the Hoops 3-1 in the Europa League.
Ten-man Celtic suffered a 3-1 defeat to an impressive Red Bull Salzburg side in the Europa League.
The Hoops' record signing Odsonne Edouard shocked the hosts by finding the back of the net with just two minutes on the clock.
But Salzburg, semi-finalists in this competition last season, fought back to win by two goals after relentless pressure eventually paid dividends.
All three goals for the Austrian champions came after the interval, with Israeli goal machine Mounes Dabbur hitting the back of the net either side of a Takumi Minamino tap in.
Dabbur's second came from the penalty spot after Scotland winger James Forrest saw red for hauling down Salzburg captain Ulmer in the area.
Celtic found themselves ahead with just two minutes on the clock when Edouard eased a controlled finish into the far corner after outmuscling Salzburg centre-half Andre Ramahlo on the left.
Despite missing skipper Scott Brown, Brendan Rodgers' men kept their shape well to hold off the Austrian champions throughout the opening 45 minutes.
Dabbur crept in behind the Hoops' defence after the break, though, with Craig Gordon making a point-blank save to deny the Israeli.
That warning shot wasn't heeded by the Scottish champions and Dabbur soon got himself on the scoresheet, squirming a close-range effort under Gordon after a cross was kept alive at the back post.
Salzburg continued to surge forward thereafter and completed the turnaround when Japanese striker Minamino, a constant menace throughout, eventually got his goal.
Celtic saw their chances evaporate when Forrest received his marching orders for pulling down Ulmer in the box following a slack touch.
Dabbur done the rest from the spot to ensure a 3-1 victory for the Austrians.
