McKenna hit with notice of complaint for Edouard challenge
Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna has been offered a two-match ban after the incident.
Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna has been hit with a notice of complaint by the Scottish FA following his challenge on Celtic attacker Odsonne Edouard.
The French striker was left with a dead leg after the incident just before half-time in his side's 1-0 win over Aberdeen.
Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers criticised McKenna's "reckless challenge", which went unpunished by the officials on the day.
Of the tackle, Rodgers said: "If you're talking about a reckless challenge then whenever young Scott jumps two foot off the floor like that and takes the striker as high as he has, then the very minimum it's a free-kick."
As the ref, Bobby Madden, missed the incident, McKenna was left open to retrospective punishment.
The action was independently reviewed by three former Category One officials, who were unanimous that the incident was worthy of a red card.
McKenna was offered a two-match suspension for serious foul play which the Dons have immediately confirmed they will challenge.
In a statement, Aberdeen voiced their "total shock" and said they had appealed in the "strongest possible terms" the two-game ban put forward.
A club spokesperson added: "It came as a total shock to learn that Scott has been cited for an incident where the referee deemed there was no offence committed and we have subsequently lodged an appeal."
The matter will now be dealt with at a fast-track tribunal at Hampden on Thursday.
