Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has said he's excited to see Jack Hendry progress after the defender's tumultuous start to life in the Hoops.

Impressive early showings at Parkhead saw Hendry become a full Scottish international.

But the 23-year-old's performances have come under scrutiny at the start of this season as Celtic crashed out of Europe and endured a stuttering start to their Premiership campaign.

With Filip Benkovic sidelined and Kris Ajer an injury doubt, Hendry is expected to deputise once more in the centre of defence this weekend when the champions host Aberdeen.

Rodgers praised the ex-Dundee stopper for his attitude since arriving in Glasgow and backed him to improve over the coming seasons.

He said: "Jack is a player that, for me, he never goes missing.

"He's a player that has come into a huge club and has seen the demands.

"He never shirks from it. He's a player who is only going to get better.

"He's been thrust into it probably earlier than I'd have wanted to due to injuries.

"He's had some terrific games, he's had some challenging games.

"But the beauty with Jack is he always puts himself out there, he never hides.

"Those experiences will only make him better.

"It's very early in his Celtic career but he has a great attitude and I'm looking forward to seeing him develop over the next few years."
