Burke: Clarke has raised standards and expectation
The Kilmarnock winger revealed the team believe they should have more points already.
Kilmarnock's Chris Burke has hailed Steve Clarke and his team for bringing competition and organisation to a team that's aiming to improve on last season's fifth-place Premiership finish.
Burke hit the headlines on Sunday when he scored the equaliser and delivered the corner for Stuart Findlay's last-gasp winner in the 2-1 victory over Celtic.
He revealed that although that memorable result put smiles on faces at Rugby Park, the team was already in good spirits.
"The mood's great," he told STV. "I would say the mood was great even though we got a defeat against Hibs the week before. We were happy with our performance.
"We've been playing good football since the start of the season and it just shows you how far Kilmarnock have come as a team that we're actually a little bit disappointed that we only have ten points on the board at this point. We feel as if in certain games we could have picked up a little bit more.
"But it's not to be and that's the ambition we have set ourselves now. We're striving to be top six and better last season. The camp is very good and we have a great bunch of players."
Burke credited Clarke's approach to the game as the reason for their success and said that after a season that delivered beyond expectation last year, the manager had built over the summer to allow for greater ambition.
"The way the manager has structured us and the way we train day in, day out [helps create success]," he said. "We train as we play and we all know our jobs throughout the group. it's not just the 11, anybody could come in to the team and perform to a very high standard.
"And the players that the manager has brought in this year have added extra quality which brings great competition.
"Hopefully we'll bring more attractive football as the way we've played so far bodes well for the club.
"As soon as he steps in, what a manager looks for is whether he can maximise the players' potential and I think that's shown. He's improved players and you can see the players he can attract as well as well as the style of play.
I think if you ask any Kilmarnock fan, they'll be excited with the direction the club is going on. Long may it continue."
