Andy Murray will play his last competitive tennis of the season in Beijing next month.

The Scot is currently in China preparing to play in the Shenzen Open, where he faces fellow wildcard Zhizhen Zhang in the first round on Monday.

Once his run in Shenzen comes to an end Murray will shift focus towards Beijing, which takes place the week after next.

The 31-year-old had been scheduled for further action but has decided to end his season early to focus on training for the remainder of the calendar year.

Murray intends to take on "intense reconditioning and training blocks" in a bid to "get closer to his best level" for 2019.

He said in a Facebook video: "I need a long period of training and reconditioning to get back in the best shape possible for 2019 and to get back competing for the big tournaments again.

"It's been really positive the last few months, I've made big strides forward following hip surgery and feel with a strong training period I will make big improvements."
