Aberdeen have announced the signing of Manchester United striker James Wilson on loan.

The striker has completed his move from Old Trafford to Pittodrie after undergoing a medical with the Dons.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has been searching for a forward since Adam Rooney's departure and has pulled off a coup by bringing in Wilson from the Premier League giants.

"I am absolutely delighted to secure James on a season long loan as he is a player I feel will very quickly become an important member of the squad for us," McInnes said.

"He is a real quality player, who I think will suit the way we play, and, having spoken to him, I think he sees this move as a real opportunity for him. There were other clubs interested in taking James but he feels this is the right place for him to continue his development.

"I'd also like to thank Manchester United for the part they played in making the loan happen."

The 22-year old made his United debut in 2014, scoring twice against Hull City and made 17 appearances the following season under Louis van Gaal. Since,. the striker has had several loan spells and suffered a long-term injury but came back for United's Under-23s before moving to Sheffield United on loan for the second half of last season.
