Livingston player-manager Kenny Miller insists a point against Kilmarnock will give his side belief that they can make an impact in this season's Premiership.

The Lions held Killie, who finished fifth in the top-flight last term, to a goalless draw in their first home league game of the season.

Miller believes that his side were well worth a point and said he hopes the performance can give his men something to kick on from.

He said: "That has got to give our lads belief, I felt in the first half we were the better team, controlled it for long spells.

"I'm really pleased for the boys, I felt we more than held our own and a draw was the least we deserved.

"I couldn't have asked for a better group of players for my first managerial job.

"It is a well earned point and something for the boys to build on. Hopefully it can give them real belief.

"I think we will be more than competitive this season."

Meanwhile, Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke bemoaned his side's lack of cutting edge after the goalless draw.

The Rugby Park side, who won their opening Premiership game against St Johnstone last week outfit, struggled to breakdown a resolute Livingston team.

He said: "It was a hard-earned point. We knew it would be difficult coming here with it being Livingston's first game back at home.

"They started well and put us on the back foot and we put ourselves on the back foot by not dealing with it better at that stage.

"But we came through it and had the best chance of the first half when Chris Burke hit the post.

"We controlled the game better in the second half but didn't really threaten.

"We had two or three late chances and I thought the subs made a difference by giving us a spark.

"We finished the better team, but we couldn't find the finish.

"We take the point - four points from our first two games - and move on."

Despite suggestions that the Livingston pitch is soft underfoot, Clarke, whose own team play on synthetic grass, refused to criticise the surface.

He added: "You're not asking me to comment on a pitch are you? I'm not allowed to do that. The pitch is the pitch.

"We dealt with it, Livingston dealt with it, we just got on with the game. We tried our best to win it."
