Rangers defender Borna Barisic said he aims to repay the fans for the warm welcome he has been given to the club.

The Croatian is yet to start for the Ibrox side but said he has received many positive messages on social media after he signed for the Light Blues on Tuesday.

Barisic was recruited after he impressed for Osijek in their Europa League tie against Rangers and could make his debut in their Premiership fixture against St Mirren on Sunday.

He said: "When I came here, I got a lot of messages from the fans. Now I need to give this back on the pitch.

"That is the most important thing, to play good football and win every possible game and to make the fans happy.

"I'm very happy to be part of this big club. My mentality is that I always want to win. I want to win everything that we can.

The 25-year-old has three caps for Croatia and will line-up alongside compatriot Nikola Katic who joined Rangers earlier this summer.

He said that Katic spoke of Rangers in glowing terms before his transfer and hopes that his move to Glasgow can help him establish himself in the national squad.

"I speak with him, he said everything is top, the boss is top, the staff are top, teammates are top and fans are top, he said everything is amazing," he said.

"If I play well, I can be in the national team."

Barisic scored against Rangers at Ibrox in the second leg of their Europa League qualifier and said the fans left a lasting impression on him.

He said: "This is a top atmosphere. yesterday we saw it and I felt it when I played with Osijek. The fans are really positive and I like that."
