St. Mirren have completed the loan signing of Nicolai Brock-Madsen.

Brock-Madsen arrives in Paisley after spending the second half of last season on loan to Polish side Cracovia.

The striker joined Birmingham from Randers in 2015 and also had a spell on loan to PEC Zwolle.

However, despite the arrival of the 25-year-old forward, Alan Stubbs told STV his squad still needs further strengthening.

The Paisley side had been linked with Juventus' striker Stefano Beltrame however Stubbs has confirmed that a deal for the Italian has fallen through.

He said: "We were hopeful of getting the signing of Stefano across the line. Unfortunately, over the last day, that won't be happening anymore. It's disappointing but that's transfer business.

"We're hopeful of bringing in additional players.

"I do think the squad needs strengthening.

"The demands of the rest of the season are going to be at a higher level comparing to what they were last season.

"There is going to be an emphasis on the players not being able to play every week throughout the season due to dips in form and fitness."

With John McGinn's move to Aston Villa estimated to be around £3m, St. Mirren are anticipating to receive a third of this as McGinn's Hibs' contract dictated.

Stubbs added: "Later in the season, when players become fatigued and need a rest - this is where we will need to make sure the squad is at a competitive level.

"What I'll be allowed to spend (of the McGinn money), I'm not entirely sure. The club knows that the squad does need strengthening. We will be active as we possibly can between now and August 31st."

St. Mirren will travel to Ibrox on Sunday to play Rangers. The clubs last met at Ibrox in February 2016, where Rangers were 1-0 winners.
