Dundee United manager Csaba Laszlo has apologised to supporters for the team's opening day Championship defeat and says he has told the players that performances have been unacceptable.

After finishing fourth in their League Cup group, United kicked off the Championship season with their number one priority being promotion back to the top flight. However, despite leading Dunfermline 1-0 at half-time, United collapsed to a 3-2 defeat at home.

Laszlo made no excuses and said he expects to see his team show a positive reaction in upcoming games.

"We have to apologise for the second half," he said. "Definitely this is not Dundee United.

"I think that it's right that I take the responsibility and I want to apologise in the name of the team and the staff because this is not acceptable. Not for me, not for anybody.

"I don't think that we even deserved a draw, we deserved to lose, especially in the second half. I want to see the reaction in the next games.

"We have a target that we want to reach and all the players are together for a very ambitious target. Our work isn't done, there's a lot of work to do, but in 45 minutes we damaged a lot so now we have to go and do completely different."

The manager revealed that chairman Mike Martin was in regular contact and was not impressed by the start to the season. Laszlo shared that feeling and said that he would not accept a repeat of the team's second-half showing.

"We talked on Sunday and today in training this was a completely different team," he said. "The boys said it wasn't how they could play.

"I said I would go to the front and I take responsibility. They are my team, my players.

"But we represent Dundee United and I want completely different games. I want a completely different attitude.

"You have ambition, I have ambition, Dundee United has ambition.

"We have fans and the fans here are suffering.

"I don't accept this any more. Finish."

United's efforts to turn around their form could be carried out as the squad undergoes changes in personnel. Laszlo confirmed that Slovakian striker Pavol Safranko was training with the club and said that he understood James Keatings was a target for Hamilton, though no bid had been received. He also said the club were open to offers for other players.
