Rangers have appealed the red card that was shown to Alfredo Morelos during Sunday's draw with Aberdeen.

The striker was dismissed after eleven minutes following an incident with Dons defender Scott McKenna.

Boss Steven Gerrard said there was two "violent barges" from the Dons defender that led to Morelos' reaction and was furious with the decision.

Rangers came close to securing a victory with ten men but Dons striker Bruce Anderson struck late to deny Gerrard a win on his league bow.

The Ibrox side submitted an appeal to the SFA on Monday afternoon in a bid to overturn the sending off and allow Morelos to feature against St Mirren this Sunday

If the appeal fails, Morelos will be handed a two-game ban, ruling him out of the Premiership clash with the Saints as well as their League Cup clash at Kilmarnock on August 19
