Craig Levein: Rangers no closer to agreeing Lafferty deal
The Hearts boss said there have been no further developments on Rangers move for the striker.
Hearts manager Craig Levein said there have been no developments following Rangers initial bid for Kyle Lafferty.
Last week, the Tynecastle club rejected an offer from Rangers as it fell substantially short of their valuation of Lafferty who is in the final year of his contract.
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has said he is in "a rush" to get players in but Levein said there has been no further dialogue and expects Lafferty to be involved against Hamilton on Saturday.
When asked if there had been any further discussions, he said: "Not as far as I'm aware.
"Things are status quo and there's another four weeks in transfer window to go so we'll see what happens.
"I don't know what's going to happen.
"For a deal to go through, three parties need to be satisfied with the deal and at this moment in time there isn't a common ground.
"It's just a normal situation like any transfer it's the status quo and Kyle will be involved tomorrow."
And despite the offer falling short of Hearts' valuation of Lafferty, Levein said he has no issue with Rangers bids.
He said: "I don't have any issue with people trying to get players on the cheap, I try and do that myself.
"I think that's part of business of course and I don't want to talk about how anyone else does their business."
Levein has been busy in the transfer market himself adding 13 new players to his squad.
Whilst the new recruits have impressed in emphatic wins in the League Cup, the Hearts manager said it's too early to say how well they will do but believes they are a more competitive team now.
He added: "I'm still learning and working out who's in the best form and who can perhaps play alongside who.
"There's lots going on.
"When you do as much business as we've done this summer, that's sort of a natural process as well.
"I'm not 100% sure where we are, I see signs of improvement and hopefully that can continue against Hamilton.
"I know that we are a more balanced team. That's quite easy to work out just by looking at the players we have.
"We've got more left footed players than we've had in a while.
"We have competition for places which is important. We really toiled with lack of competition last season.
And Levein said he has his own personal targets for Hearts this season: "I always see Hearts as a team who play European football so I have my own views on where we should be, but there's a lot of competition and not everyone can get those spots."
