Celtic hold off Rosenborg to set up AEK Athens qualifier
The Hoops won 3-1 on aggregate to progress in Champions League qualifying.
Celtic held off Rosenborg's challenge in Trondheim to progress to the third round of Champions League qualifying.
The Hoops withstood early pressure from the Norwegians before seeing out the closing stages to draw 0-0 and set up a fixture with Greek side AEK Athens.
Much like at Celtic Park, Brendan Rodgers' side started slowly. Craig Gordon fumbled a long-range shot from Mike Jensen and Jack Hendry almost bundled the ball over his own line before eventually clearing to safety.
Forward Alexander Soderland was next to go close for the hosts after he crept in between Ajer and Hendry but the Norwegian international steered his effort wide.
Soderland saw another chance pass him by before the break when he he mistimed his jump with the goal at his mercy from a corner.
Just before the interval Gordon was forced into action to tip Marius Lundemo's powerful header over the bar.
At the start of the second period the Scottish champions sprang into the life. Odsonne Edouard twisted and turned on the left wing before gliding past the full-back with ease but the French forward curled his shot over.
Celtic looked to have stemmed the tide until Jonathan Levi fired a warning shot Gordon's way, which the Scotland stopper parried away.
Hoops winger Scott Sinclair nearly put the game beyond the Norwegians moments later, but the Englishman's effort bounced off his knee and just wide.
Rosenborg thought they had grabbed a lifeline in the dying moments but Nicklas Bendtner's header was chalked off after the Dane was deemed to have fouled the keeper.
