St Mirren boss Stubbs eyes striker move after six-goal rout
Alan Stubbs hopes his former club Everton can lend the Buddies a helping hand.
St Mirren manager Alan Stubbs said he's in the market for another attacker despite seeing his charges hit Dumbarton for six.
Cammy Smith grabbed a double, with Haydon Coulson, Ross Stewart, Stephen McGinn and Jim Kellerman also getting on the scoresheet as the Buddies clinched a best runners-up slot.
The convincing win brought about Stubbs' first victory since taking over in Paisley.
Having previously toiled to three draws, the former Everton defender said he'd been in touch with his old employers about receiving a helping hand in the form of some new recruits.
Stubbs said: "I'm still looking to do some business. I'm still hopeful of bringing in a striker, but it's a bit different here because the window's a bit longer than down south. I am prepared to be patient to get the right ones in.
"I have been trying to lean on (Everton chairman) Bill (Kenwright) a little bit to get one or two in, but that charm hasn't worked at the moment.
"It does help that the window is open longer up here though. The World Cup has really affected the Premiership teams in terms of what under-23s or fringe players are out, we won't know that until August 10 when their window closes and the loan market is still available.
"We will get a clearer picture of what the clubs want to do then."
Furious Sons boss Stevie Aitken slammed his players' "embarrassing" showing as they collapsed following Coulson's first-minute strike.
He said: "That was embarrassing. It's not acceptable. I expect my team to compete and we were second best all over the park."
