Millwall have rejected a second bid of £3m from Rangers for defender Jake Cooper, STV has learned.

The Ibrox side are keen to land the stopper as Steven Gerrard moves to increase his options at the back but we understand the Lions have no intention of selling the 23-year-old.

It remains to be seen if Rangers go back in with a third offer for the centre-back or move on to another target.

Cooper played 42 times last season as Millwall finished in eighth place in the Championship. The stopper is contracted at the South East London club until 2020.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has already added defensive reinforcements with centre-back Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic amongst his nine summer signings.

The pairing started in Gerrard's first competitive game as Rangers defeated Shkupi 2-0 at Ibrox on Thursday.
